FERTILIZER PROGRAMS

Soil Samples

Soil samples are taken to determine the basis of your program. This will include pH testing as well as extractable levels of macro and micro nutrients.

The health and vigor of your lawn depends upon applying the right amount of materials at the right time without causing problems for your turfs growth, appearance and health while protecting our environment from leaching or run-off. Healthy turf grass that is vigorous will grow and provide a good ground cover that can reduce leaching and protect groundwater. Turfgrass will also take up the majority of the fertilizer applied to it, as long as it is applied correctly. Pestguard has spent a tremendous amount of effort optimizing our custom nutritional program that includes 6 applications of our slow release fertilizers. Your turf grass will be fed small amounts of nutrients more frequently to minimize non-point source pollution and produce healthy stress tolerant turf grass. Nutritional deficiencies can affect turf color and growth, in addition to inhibiting the grass’ ability to tolerate and compete with weeds, diseases and insects.

Fertilizer Program Breakdown

NITROGEN: A slow release nitrogen source provides consistent color throughout the year, even between applications

POTASSIUM: Included with each application, potassium enhances root growth, helps maintain water balance. Photosynthesis and enhance cold tolerance

MINOR ELEMENTS: Minor elements such as Iron and Manganese are added to enhance the dark green color.  Additional minor elements such as Boron, Copper, Molybdenum, Zinc and Nickel are also added.

PHOSPHOROUS: Due to it’s abundance in Florida soil our fertilizer contains little to no phosphorous. Soil samples will determine if any phosphorous is required.

Before your first application begins, Pestguard will  arrange to inspect your property for visual deficiencies and collect soil samples to be analyzed. Because each and every treatment application is unique to your properties needs, every application will be slightly different. Below is an basic outline for most treatments.

  1. An inspection of your turf grass is performed by our highly trained technicians. A written service report will be provided to the association.
  2. Our custom blended dry fertilizer will then be applied using our commercial designed fertilizer spreader.
  3. Our fertilizer contains all of the nutrients required based from the soil samples. The slow release materials in our  fertilizer will sustain the dark green color and promote the healthy new growth needed to compete with weeds. An insecticide may also be added to our granules as some types of insects are controlled using this application type to get control down to the insect.
  4. After the fertilizer application, any fertilizer and other organic materials (grass clippings, leaves etc) will be removed from hard surfaces such as the driveway, sidewalks and roads with commercial power blowers.  These materials are blown back into the yard to keep them out of storm drains and waterways . Clippings have significant nutrient value and decompose rapidly, returning some fertilizer and organic matter to the soil.
  5. Specialized equipment is utilized for the application of liquid insecticides. Applications are made for the control or prevention of turfgrass damaging insects.
  6. Next your Pestguard technician will perform a thorough treatment for weeds.  This application is performed using a lower volume of water so the material remains on the leaf surface. All weeds that have a selective treatment available, are treated with this application. This includes broadleaf weeds, sedges and even some susceptible grassy weeds.
